There are three shelters and seven huts maintained by the Department of Conservation on the Heaphy Track, of which five have gas-cooking facilities. Each of the huts has comfortable bunks, fireplaces or wood burners, and plentiful rainwater supplies.
Brown Hut at the Collingwood end of the track and Gouland Downs Hut, which is a small hut on the alpine section around half way along the track, do not have cooking facilities, so if you plan on staying at these huts, you will need to carry a means of cooking your food. See map for hut locations.
